Unemployment threatens loss of half of the, only public University in the country, Unions that since three weeks ago have paralysed the State University autonomous of Santo Domingo (UASD), decided to continue their strike today to demand a wage increase.
During a meeting held at the headquarters of the UASD, trade unions reiterated its rejection of a proposal submitted last week the Government of an increase in wages of 20 percent from 2007.
All this despite the fact that several professors and university employees favored in the Assembly continue the increased demand, but restart the teaching.
The promoters of the strike, the UASD Federation of teachers and the Association of university employees, demanded a wage increase of 30 percent in principle but now proposed a rise of 40 percent.
